I have to tell everyone, that as a heavy duty AYCE sushi eater, that Fish on Rice on Broadway currently gets my vote as the best AYCE sushi house in Vancouver.
We used to go to Tomokatzu all the time just a few blocks east on Broadway, but sadly it has slipped downhill significantly and we no longer go there.
In its place, Fish on Rice is now the best in the city in my opinion.
Their full package AYCE for $21.95 includes the luxury sashimi like squid, octopus, tuna tataki, and surf clam. The luxury sushi includes shrimp, and they have eel cones all of which is top quality. For $17.95 their reduced menu AYCE does not include the above items and the sashimi includes only regular and spicy tuna and regular and spicy salmon. But the quality is fantastic. Presentation is superb. Service is excellent. The restaurant's assistant manager is a very decent fellow and he runs a good operation. And I should also mention that unlike any other AYCE I have ever been to this city, their AYCE also includes unlimited soft drinks.
All of the dishes are custom prepared fresh when you order. They don't have pre-made dishes waiting around getting stale. You can watch the sushi chefs preparing your order at the sushi bar.
Their non-sushi items are superb quality and well presented as well. All hot food is served piping hot, not tepid. The calamri is very good. The udons are great. The kimchi, sunomono, soup, salad and other dishes that we have had are all top drawer.
And when you order a sushi or cone, they DO NOT ever load it with rice to fill you up. The rice amounts are nice and small. So many other AYCE sushi restaurants load up tons and tons of rice into their sushi dishes and cones so you will fill up on rice and eat less sashimi and fish. But Fish on Rice does not play that game.
So congratulations to Fish on Rice for holding the SushiBuffets.com NUMBER ONE TOP CHOICE in Vancouver award. We hope they keep up the excellent quality and we wish them continued success.
