Last night my spouse and I decided to try Shota's late night all you can east sushi offering, as went to a movie and thought this would be a good opportunity to try their offerings.

Their late night on FRI SAT and SUN costs $14.95, and quite frankly, it was very mediocre and not justifiably better than any other late night sushi AYCE offering in the lower mainland.

We were not over empressed. It was not bad, but quite frankly, given Shot's full deal AYCE sushi being so excellent, we expected a lot more of their late night offering.

They limit their sashimi to only two orders per sashimi listing per person. So we ordered 2 orders of the Tai sashimi, hokkigai sashimi, tuna sashimi, and salmon sashimi. This results on our getting 4 very small pieces of the above listed sashimi. Taste and freshness was good, but the order sizes were very, very small. I think they were very stingy.

Their sushi pieces and cones taste good, but as is often the case, there was too much rice loaded in. They want you to fill up on cheap rice of course. I ordered the chopped scallops cone, the spicy salmon cone, and the spicy tuna cone.

We also tried their unagi rice bowl, and their mixed seafood rice bowl. Again, they were loaded with tons of rice. Way too much rice, so this was off putting.

Their spicy tuna roll and spicy tuna roll were very good. They were not loaded with rice, and their presentation is very nice. So these dishes get top marks.

The BBQ beef ribs were standard fare, as were the deep fried squid. The sanomo soup and salad were average. Not great not bad.

Total tab for the two of us came to $29.30 including tax, and $32.80 after the tap was added on.

In conclusion: I won't be rushing back there for their late dinner. I would grade it a 6 out of 10. Service was mediocre. Had to keep asking for water. Service was stone faced. The ebi AYCE late night at West 41st and Granville is actually a much better deal. The ambience is not as nice as Shota, but the food is better.
